Process
What to Expect
Each engagement begins by clarifying the referral question. The exact process depends on the student’s needs, available information, and the scope of service.
Four-step consultation and evaluation process
- 01Clarify
Introductory conversation
We discuss the student’s current concerns, school history, referral questions, and the type of support being requested.
This helps clarify the referral question and whether the request fits the practice scope.
- 02Review
Planning and records review
Relevant background information is reviewed, which may include prior evaluations, IEP or 504 documents, intervention records, academic data, behavior documentation, report cards, and other school-based information.
This helps define the scope of work before moving forward.
- 03Evaluate / Consult
Evaluation or consultation
Assessment or consultation activities are completed based on the referral question. This may include testing, interviews, rating scales, observations, record review, behavior analysis, or school psychology-informed consultation.
This helps connect assessment or consultation activities to the actual school concern.
- 04Recommend
Results and recommendations
You receive clear findings and practical recommendations designed to support school-based planning. When appropriate, results may help families, schools, attorneys, or advocates prepare for next steps, meetings, intervention planning, or further decision-making.
This helps translate findings into practical next steps.
Not sure which step applies?
The introductory conversation is designed to clarify whether evaluation, FBA support, record review, or consultation may be the appropriate next step within the practice scope.
